Argon metastables in HiPIMS: time-resolved tunable diode-laser diagnostics
نویسندگان
چکیده
Time resolved Tunable Diode-Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TD-LAS) measurements were performed on the argon metastable (Ar) level 3s3p(P°3/2)4s excited at 801.478 nm, in the dense plasma region in front of the magnetron target in a high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) discharge. From the Doppler profile the evolution of the temperature and density were derived during the pulse as well as during the plasma decay, i.e. in the afterglow. It is shown that the Ar density sharply increases at the beginning of the discharge pulse, followed by a severe Ar depletion along with increasing gas temperature around the peak of the HiPIMS discharge current. The strong dynamics of these parameters involve many elementary processes such as electron impact excitation, electron impact de-excitation and ionization of Ar, gas rarefaction, electron temperature increase at the end of the pulse, gas diffusion, etc. These phenomena are discussed with respect to several parameters: distance from the target, peak discharge current during the pulse, pulse length, as well as gas pressure. Towards deeper understanding of an HiPIMS discharge by time-resolved optical plasma diagnostics
As a promising pulsed sputter deposition technique, High-Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS) required an extensive time-resolved plasma characterization. Being essentially non-intrusive, optical plasma diagnostics methods posses in particular the timeand spaceresolution(s) which normally exceed the typical needs of a typical HiPIMS geometry [1] and, therefore, can be readily applied for...

Space resolved concentrations of helium He (S1) metastable atoms in an atmospheric pressure radio-frequency micro-plasma jet were measured using tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy. The spatial profile of metastable atoms in the volume between the electrodes was deduced for various electrode gap distances. Density profiles reveal the sheath structure and reflect the plasma excitation di...

Difficulties in preparing cluster ions for spectroscopic studies have limited our understanding of intermolecular forces in charged complexes that are typical of many reactive intermediates. Here, the infrared spectrum of the charge transfer complex [Ar-N2]+, recorded in a supersonic planar plasma with a tunable diode laser spectrometer, is presented. More than 70 adjacent rovibrational transit...
